Heartbreak no more, Inch Chua!

As all of us would have known, Inch Chua, a Singaporean singer-songwriter who gained national recognition, has expressed disappointment regarding the lack of support for home-grown music.

This is where the Urban Ignite team would like to say that we believe there is a humble group of us who appreciate local talent! In her Facebook note, she questioned why Singapore is “the only country where ‘local’ has so much negative connotations tagged with it”.

We feel that there has been effort in gathering music lovers to experience good local music.

For example, Baybeats, a 3-day musical event that aims to give recognition to regional and especially local talents. Every year, Baybeats gets bigger and better.

Baybeats never fails to get more response every year which

Baybeats is usually known to be highly-anticipated and long-awaited for because of its impressive home grown line-up every year. includes the rising number of keen local bands eyeing for a spot to play.

Also, something that we, as students of Republic Polytechnic, are very proud of! Ignite Music Festival is an annual student-driven music festival by Republic Polytechnic that promotes passion and compassion. It is touted as one of the largest music festival that showcases local talents and musicians.

What’s more? It is free! Audiences of Ignite reached 10 000 last year and this had definitely garnered the attention of the local media.

With that, the Urban Ignite team strongly feels that local talents are indeed receiving recognition and appreciation slowly but surely! We all have to start somewhere, don’t we?!
